Marlon Williams // Heaven For You, Prison For Me

So there’s this really talented country/folk musician from New Zealand (now based in Melbourne) called Marlon Williams. Best acoustic singer-songwriter I’ve seen on the whole Australian scene.

Justin Townes Earle: “Rogers Park”

This is my favourite of his songs. And he wrote it when he was so young too.

So take my heart and break it in
Send me back to the pines
Tired of lying awake at night
Feels like I’m running outta time

I’m all alone now
And I feel just fine.
Don’t feel much like doing anything.
True love ain’t that hard to find,
not that either one of us would ever know.

— Ryan Adams

Some mountains and men are bigger than you think
Some river’s so fast, hell you can’t take a drink
Some burden’s so heavy you can’t help but sink
In that ocean with the chains on one too many links

I’m a laid-back one
And i’ve been one so long
I ain’t perfect
You can tell by my songs
Brothers forgive me for all of my wrongs
The good lord he’s calling
And it’s time to go on home

Say what you will and do what you must
That rain’s coming soon boys, gonna clear up this dust
And I ain’t had a home in so very long
But I’m headin’ to the house boys, I’ll leave the light on

Cause I’m a laid-back one
And i’ve been one so long
I ain’t perfect
You can tell by my songs
Brothers forgive me for all of my wrongs
The good lord he’s calling
And it’s time to go on home

I wore out my shoes in that wrong way to run
I blistered my skin working hard in the sun
Supper’s almost over and I done clean my plate
And there’s a light shining yonder, boys I don’t think I’ll wait

I’m a laid-back one
And i’ve been one so long
I ain’t perfect
You can tell by my songs
Brothers forgive me for all of my wrongs
The good lord he’s calling
And it’s time to go home

I hear him calling
And it’s time to go home.

The Tallest Man On Earth: "Shallow Grave"

somesthetic-aura:

After The Goldrush | Neil Young

One of the best songs ever written.

(via somesthetic-aura-deactivated201)

Billy Bragg and Wilco: "One By One"

Lyrics originally written by Woody Guthrie, music added by Billy Bragg and Wilco.

One by one the days are slipping up behind you
One by one the sweetest days of life go by
One by one the moments stealing up behind you
One by one she’ll come and find not you or I

Neil Young: Then and now.

Ryan Adams: Blue Hotel (Solo Live)

This is my favourite song at the moment. It’s absolutely perfect.

Something about her that’s cold
She’s blowing through the trees, leaving me raw
The words come out and I get confused

I get shattered like a light bulb in an October moon
She’s inside me like a secret and I got no one to tell
Wandering like a fool through the halls of a blue hotel

Ryan Adams: "Dirty Rain"

(Source: intensepretense, via sean-atkins-deactivated20120912)

Like silence she stands
Like laughter she falls
From a castle of sand
Like a memory she calls
And the mockingbirds grieve
Cause they can’t make her cry
They’ll soon start to believe
That the lady has died

— Townes Van Zandt, Why’s She Acting This Way

Josh T. Pearson: "Sweetheart, I Ain’t Your Christ" (Later with Jools Holland)

This guy is definitely interesting. Been listening to him a bit lately. Unique style and I admire that.

And how you bring your gifts to me,
Tied up and bound in their bows of pink,
And gently place them at my feet
Like I’m some dying Christmas tree

Ryan Adams: "Friends (LIVE)"

This is absolutely perfect. Just keep listening over and over again. Might do a cover when I get my recording equipment back.

"As angry as a breeze
Tugging hard upon the sails
Been moving through these streets forever
From Baltimore to Amsterdam
These things inside me they repeat like broken records
Spinning pretty somethings behind my eyes
And when I can’t look at you
I can paint your picture perfectly with my mind
And when I get old
I’m gonna miss you all the time”

And when I can’t look at you
I can paint a picture of you perfectly in my mind
and when i get old
I’m going to miss you all the time
